FANS of tragic Big Country star Stuart Adamson are to unveil a bench in his honour in his home town.

The memorial in Dunfermline’s Pittencrieff park will be engraved with lyrics from Stuart’s songs.

Fan Gwenda Matthews, who used to live in Dunfermline, started fundraising after finding out there was no permanent memorial to Stuart in the town.

Well-wishers from across the world sent donations.

Stuart, 43, committed suicide in a hotel room in Hawaii in 2001 after struggling with alcohol and depression.

He was a founder member of The Skids before forming Big Country.

Gwenda said the bench would be a place where “fans could go to remember him”.

She added: “Stuart left his fans with a legacy in his music and the fans wanted to give something back.”

The bench will be unveiled on September 24.
